#31
Ived Owned My Monte 2 years and ive waxed it 4 times, Miquars liquid Gold. car Gets washed evry saterday, Last Winter I had to drive it all throw winter. Um Its Not Like RUSTING bad or anything, It has like 2-3 GOOD NASTY rock chips on each wheel wheel and their just starting to rust. Its the 2 Bubbles I have above supercharger emblom driver side im More Concernd,
i would get it to a body shop quick if you dont want it to get bad. Mine started as just a small bubble by my emblems and went crazy after that and rusted my whole fender lip out...since i waited too long it was gonna cost 1200 to fix it

I'm going to have to check mine out closely. I have not noticed any rust but I haven't been looking for it either.
I bought mine from the original owner and she said it had always been garaged except for the last six months until I bought it. Since I've had it, Its always been either garaged or under a carport and I don't drive it in bad weather so hopefully I won't get any rust. Actually I'm amazed at how clean my car looks underneath.

Rust on a 6th Gen?
I've yet to encounter any rust on the body- (exhaust pipe, cat. converter, and resonator are the exception), but I'll certainly check around the doors, wheel wells, etc. on my next day off.. I didn't think much of it, because I thought that my car was 80% plastic.. One thing I've noticed is that it doesn't have an undercoating. Do they not do that anymore? All the cars I had when I grew up had one; not to mention the little black flakes of it that show up on the driveway.

Cut and weld new metal is the best bet for a permanent fix.

Word of warning... I did this with my old 96 Monte. It had a rusted out patch right below the fuel door. I took a circ saw to the body, cut a square out where the rust was - you could stick your hand entirely through the hole, the rust was totally gone - (by the fuel system - stupid, I know) and sanded it. Then I applied some mesh and layers of bondo and sanded the crap out of it until it was level with the body again. Painted over it, etc.
I did this THREE times in the span of one year because even though I cut the rust out, it spread to the left and right of the patched up area. It bubbled up underneath the bodywork and just spread around it. I could never permanently fix it.
If you really love your monte, you will get a new panel and call it a day. Anything short of that will be ultimately temporary. And having a body shop do it, well you might as well just pay the money for a new panel anyways. I wish I had.
