7th Gen ('06-'07): 06 ss rusting out at rear wheelwell
Zach, just want to clarify; $1600 eaI think alot of it has to do with washing gh side ($3200 total) or $1600 total for work on both sides? Did they cut out and install new sheet metal or just clean up the rust and paint over?
At this point I'd really like to have the bad area cut out and new sheet metal installed. If not, from majority of what I've seen of rust clean up and paint over, it's just going to eventually come back and be an issue again in the future. I have to see what the dealership/shop recommends and go from there but that'll have to wait til spring.
I wash the car at least twice a month and, each time it gets washed, water gets up in the rust area. I've probably helped limit its severity/spreading by not driving the car in the rain or snow but, even still, it's been gradually getting worse. I think, in my situation, a lot of it is because of the moisture from car washing.

Just wanted to add to the thread and be one more irritated GM enthusiast. Took my '07 Monte SS in for an estimate from a "bump and run"... as if I wasn't already angry enough from that... found out my passenger rear quarter has "extensive" rust. The body shop owner couldn't believe it because he knows how I am with my baby! Called the number for GM and was told that the dealers are their "eyes and ears" in the field. I'll pursue that route and may not go GM on my next purchase.
Anybody ever figure out a solution for the rust? Just get it repaired on your own? I just bought an 06 monte SS with 64k on it and looks like I have the same problem I. The passenger quarter panel and fender where it meets the ground effect/molding. The car is flawless besides that which actually convinced me to buy it.
I would expect your guys' cars to be fine. It's more so the cars that are or were daily drivers, especially those exposed to winter conditions for at least several years.
Mine was most likely its first owner's daily driver for the first 5 years, then another year as mine. Initially an Ohio car and now Michigan - not the friendliest environments. The rust issue on mine is isolated and had already started before I bought it though it was barely visible and even I didn't notice it until 5-6 months after I bought it, and I notice everything. The car doesn't see winters or rain anymore but the rust is there so any moisture (even from washing the car) is a catalyst and will only make it worse over time.

Mine is rusting pretty good now, paint pealing off. I'm wondering what the best way to fix it is?
Do I just have a body guy cut it out and rebuild it custom?
Or, should I get the quarter panels replaced with new ones?
And/ or are there reacements available?
Any info or ideas would be appreciated.
