I had rust in the rear wheel wells on my 06 LT. just ended up getting both sides patched and painted. It's a shame they can't be rust-proofed better

Mel you have to have your car exposed to the elements to rust jk

It is unfortunate that we have this problem. My last Monte before this one had this issue and I try as hard as I can now to prevent it. I know with enough water/salt it will happen at some point being up north so I keep mine in the garage all winter long.

From what I read elsewhere, its a problem everywhere. That portion of the fender holds water so it never dries out. Looks like a GM flaw to me, but they'll never admit it.
My 10 year warrantee dealer sold me "PermaPlate RustGuard" was Claim denied. Owner of the dealership offered me 1/2 price repair, 740 rather than 1480. That's only one side, i'm sure the other needs done too.

I'm at 225.000 km. spent 5000 on repairs in the last year plus 1000 on new tires. So, if my car is worth 5,000 and I spend 3000 on body work, will it still be worth 5000?

This is true. Especially since these cars are now 7+ years old; GM will say it's age, which is bs but, hey, what can you do? Honestly, though, a 7, 8, 9 year old car, that is at least somewhat taken care of, should not be rusting as extensively as I've seen some of these cars rusting in the rear quarters.

Mine is only on the passenger side and is still minor but will only get worse, thus it needs attention before it gets to being a major issue. So repair of one side looks to be about $1500 which is a bit less than I was expecting. I'll talk with the dealership in the spring to see exactly what they can do with my situation.

Yes get that taken care of ASAP. One it starts it blows up fast. I was quoted about 1600 for both sides for my old monte

I see alot more around here than where it warmer. I would imagine if your car gets wet often it still may become a problem there too.

Zach, just want to clarify; $1600 each side ($3200 total) or $1600 total for work on both sides? Did they cut out and install new sheet metal or just clean up the rust and paint over?

At this point I'd really like to have the bad area cut out and new sheet metal installed. If not, from majority of what I've seen of rust clean up and paint over, it's just going to eventually come back and be an issue again in the future. I have to see what the dealership/shop recommends and go from there but that'll have to wait til spring.

I wash the car at least twice a month and, each time it gets washed, water gets up in the rust area. I've probably helped limit its severity/spreading by not driving the car in the rain or snow but, even still, it's been gradually getting worse. I think, in my situation, a lot of it is because of the moisture from car washing.
