I have a friend that criticizes the fact that I only favor buying GMs (it's because I tend to like the look and feel of there cars, I'm a realist, there certainly better cars out there, sure, but I'm buying what I like). He feels that I work on the same engine basically (3100/3400/3800), so I don't broaden my mechanic experiences. If that's how he sees it, I'm fine with that (as I'm not a mechanic for a living).
When I decided to keep my Monte as a summer car and find something else to replace my '94 Grand Am with, at that point I deliberately wanted a GM with a 3400 or 3800, as I had a small budget to do this with and in all honesty, not just am I fairly familiar with GM's engineering, but I am very familiar with those engines (giving me better knowledge on repairs needed on a cheap car).

So I do joke these days "I'm a GM mechanic, not a Ford guy" lol.

Well, yesterday did not go as planned. I intended to do a wheel hub on the Monte after seeing IronMan 3.... Then after the hub, back to the Mustang. Well... The hub got changed (ruining my strong record for timing on wheel hub swaps). Never made it to the Mustang.... Perhaps tonight depending on how I feel.... lol....

Victory is mine!!

Re-visit the Stang today!! Well, the tap I got, it's a tad bigger than the hole in the oil pan. I was not pleased with this approach anymore.
So, next plan... That hole is part of a flange on the transmission, one I can get access to the top of. Longer bolt, with a lock washer and a nut/washer on top. Sadly, local hardware store was closed (and I really wanted a stainless bolt like the others I replaced).

So, I threw in the towel, went to the spare bolts bucket. Found a flange nut (better than my first nut/washer idea) and a flange bolt (which happened to be for a GM 3800 lower intake lol). About 2 minutes, quick easy and DONE!!!

Trans pan bolted in!!

Finished the oil change, began topping the trans fluid. At that point, it's dark out. I'll check it tomorrow after work (so the fluid drains down the dip tube) and see what the stick reads.

But, this should put these maintenance items to a close and after a final fluid and tire pressure check, my wife's Mustang is ready for her summer driving enjoyment. And I go back to my bathroom remodel project (and fix the A/C on the Monte before the GM Nats).
