White lightening Race/build thread- 81 Elco
might not be a monte but it’s a g-body!
back story April 2023
sold out 13 year olds jr dragster, he had been racing grandmas equinox in jr street as well in 2022 season I told him we will find somthing cooler than grandmas equinox to race when his car sold.
I started scouring market place( like I hadn’t already been on the search ha!)
I came a cross this white el Camino. Called him downstairs, he comes down and sits across the room kinda sheepish like he was going to get punished for somthing.
im like no come over here, he sits down and i turn my phone and go will ya race this?
his eyes lit up! Yeah!
after hours of trying to get a address from the guy (I really do dislike slow responders)
I was even making sure to respond to him as soon as I got a message trying to move this process along, me n the may as well be wife head an hour north to go look at it, test drive it, brought it home
first pictures of it after we purchased it
decided we had to christen it
In her new home. She looks good and shiny but in reality paint had a fair amount of oxidation
70k on the odometer but I’m gunna say it’s 170k
spent a number of hours giving her the ol 1 - 2 with the polisher, now it’s shiny!
picked up a set of used 15x8 4.5in back space jegs ssr star with 27.5/8 asphalt rounds round tires for cheap
The ol had to see what it would look like

got the monte out of the trailer from its winter hibernation so now white lightning has a room mate
alittle one tire fire in the driveway oops my foot slipped
tossed a tach in
I thinks she sat for a few years doors were ugly so I stole the ones from the monte what a difference
re assembled and not going to lie I like the top half of the Elco door much better than the monte
went to a car show about a hour away and pulled home some hardware. Best in 80’s category
and some more pilfering from the monte
Couple of pictures from another show at a place called pioneer village near us where they have moved a ton of old historic buildings from around the state

couple more from the show at pioneer village
even axle loves the Elco
swapped out the edelbrock that was on the car which was a giant pos for a Holley 750, way too much for the motor but ran way better than that edelbrock
a couple of pictures from the first weekend at the track

we had issues with the car dying after the burnout and it was surging bad down track, so checked a bunch of thing turned out the front needle must have had some trash in it
my foot slipped again leaving work,
the twice yearly suffle getting things ready for the winter
POV it’s the mid 90’s
putting her to work
only picture of us on QA1’s fall color cruise
Ended up pulling off 2nd in points
front runners went from $127 to $91 on summit so scooped them up
was actually supose to pick up a sew from a guy on marketplace this past sat. He miss posted they were 5x4.5 instead of 5x4.75
the may as well be wife and I looked on line thurs when I was messaging the guy then that happened, Sunday when we were at breakfast I looked and saw they were cheap and she goes order them! Done and done!
ok now that the old stuff is done I will update as I do things instead of bombarding everyone with a 10 at a time post

That stuff drives me nuts. I can barely deal with trying to buy stuff, but Ill admit I ask my wife to sell stuff (there or offer up) as it's so much worse on the selling side. Frankly anything under $50, I just donate or list it for free (so I at least don't have to respond to 35 questions leading up to asking if I'd trade $4 and a half eaten cheeseburger for my item only to find out when the person arrives that they lost two of the dollars and ate the rest of the cheeseburger by mistake).
I don't know enough about the older stuff to intelligently comment on your post, but I will say I'm glad you're posting the story - I really enjoy reading about it! It looks really awesome!
