Default 350 build was for my MC but is finding a home in our Elco for the time being

Alittle back story.

Got this 350 15ish years ago from a buddy. He pulled it out of his k5 blazer because he was told it was a 305 my motor was toast and was a good running motor so I scooped it up

finially getting around to building it as the 305 in our Elco we picked up in April 2023 for our son to race it pretty tired, a lot of blow by

sold his jr and brought the Elco home within 12 hrs

he’s a pro at big car burnouts already

g body parking, yup 84 still in piece… had a kid that’s exspensive… kid starts racing that’s exspensive… soon my friend soon!

350 4 bolt to be built

I was going to toss it together and run it but checked the cam … it had seen better days

decided I better check the bearing glad I did!

this motor ran great in my buddies k5 I’m actually suprised at its condition

this is a very budget build he can only run 9.0 in the 1/8th mile so going budget build get alittle closer to that than the 12.0 he running now I’d love to go wild but doing this on the cheap this time around

bearings where ugly!

pulled out the ol ring groove cleaner and got to work cleaning up the pistons

did a quick hand polish on the crank to clean it up

what a difference some elbow grease does

new bearings and rings installed, quick home to knock off the glaze on the walls

cleaned up valve train from the 416 305 heads from my 85 Monte cleaned up the intake and exhaust ports a bit, lapped the valves

might as well call this build by summit budget build means summit branded parts for a lot of it

picked up a set of flowtech afterburner headers of market place for cheap, everything I’ve read they fit great in g body cars!

cloyes heavy duty double roller timing set

Summit 1102
Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 278/288, Lift .421/.444

Decided to go with some roller tip stamped 1.5 rockers figured a nice little upgrade from the 40 year old stock ones

currant pile of things to go on, need to order oil pump drive and a timing cover

If, like me, you dread having to constantly retighten header and collector bolts, I enthusiastically encourage you to use Nord-Lock wedge-locking washers.

I used these when I installed a new set of headers three years ago and haven't had any loosening issues. I should have used these when I first put headers on some 30-years ago.

Here's a youtube video of how they work

That’s actually an excellent idea, I use a much larger version on my peterson wood grinder at work to keep the nut tight for the teeth. I do plan on nut and bolt checking this thing frequently since my 14 year old races it, not only my life but his depend on it
