Depending on WHY you lost your job, there are several things to do:

First off, go to your local unemployment office. This link will take you to your nearest office, no matter where you are:
http://www.servicelocator.org/
Find out what benefits are available for YOU.

Second, don't stop looking! The internet has made job hunting easier than ever. So where do you look? Here is some of my favorite sites, and of course there are others.
One of the bigger internet sites, but I don't find it very useful, personally:
http://home.monster.com/
Here's one employers are using by Yahoo:
https://login.yahoo.com/config/login...7A5pZdpJKwRtA-
There are others similar, also. But these are just the start. Every state has a job site through their employment agency, and of course every state has a different name for theirs, but here are the 2 that I use, Michigan's and Indiana's:
https://www.michworks.org/mtb/jobSea...RegionsExist=0
https://www.indianacareerconnect.com/
And what about your state Government jobs? You'll find there are probably sub listings even for things like IT jobs, as Michigan does on their site. Go to your state's home page, and there will be links to your state's civil service job postings. Here is Michigan's list:
http://web1mdcs.state.mi.us/vacancyweb/VacancyInq.asp
And Federal jobs? here:
http://www.usajobs.gov/
Your county and city might have jobs posted on their web site. Here is Ka'zoo's:
http://www.kalamazoocity.org/portal/..._opportunities
And don't forget newspapers. Your local library is a good place to look, but the internet has become such a force in our lives, that you might do just as good on-line. Here are a couple of examples: The South Bend Tribune:
http://www.sbtjobmatch.com/
The Kalamazoo Gazette is part of an organization called Mlive, which has multiple papers around the state:
http://www.mlive.com/jobs/
And don't forget the major businesses, hospitals, and universities:
http://www.stryker.com/en-us/careers/index.htm
https://www.borgess.com/Default.aspx?xc=j
http://www.wmich.edu/hr/

So what if there are no jobs for you? RE-TRAIN! Go back, or start going to college. If you didn't finish high school, there are specific programs available for you, also, and they will even help you get your college degree. I'm going after TWO associates degrees in CIS, Networking and IT. Because some of the previous college classes I have taken, even though they were taken in 1972-1974, I am still getting credit for SOME of those classes: Math, Accounting, PE, and English, which allows me to take the classes needed for the second degree.

Here is how it is gearing up for me: I am drawing unemployment, and will be for 26 weeks plus extensions. The Michigan Works "No Worker Left Behind" program gets me $5,000 per year for 2 years towards tuition, books, and etc.
http://www.michigan.gov/nwlb/
But in a year or so, my unemployment will run out, and I can't make it on that alone, but maybe others can. Here's my help: There is a federal program for displaced workers that have lost their jobs due to directly losing their jobs because their plant moved overseas, or from competition from overseas manufacturers. Here is the link, but there are many sub-links from it, but this is one of THE most important links I've given, IF you've lost your job to foreign competition, as I have:
http://www.doleta.gov/tradeact/
For me, I will file my petition on May 18th, as this will give me up to 130 weeks of unemployment benefits, plus up to $12,000 of college expenses! THIS is what I MUST get in order to make this all happen for me. I NEED the 130 weeks of unemployment, or I will have to get a job and quit schooling.

There are specific areas of the country that have received federal grants to train people in fields that have been determined to be in need in those areas. Here is a link to the nationwide guide of what is available. Just ckick on your state, and a list will come up of what is available in your area. For me, there is money available in the health care industry, but things are leading me the other direction. Here is the link:
http://www.doleta.gov/BRG/CBJTGrants...ribute=by_area

One other thing. All this government aid in paying tuition and other college expenses is secondary to any other financial aid, such as Pell grants and scholarships. Most community colleges have LOTS of scholarship money available, and apply for EVERY scholarship that you MIGHT be qualified for. I was told that LMC, where I will be attending, has 300 scholarships, with only 450 applications! That's pretty good odds! Now there are plenty of web sites that will look for scholarships, but some of them charge you a fee. DO NOT use ANY of these sites! THE best thing to go to the financial aid office of the college(s) you plan on attending, and get THEIR list of scholarships, BECAUSE, there are MANY local scholarships available, and THEY know what will work for you. Get their list, look it over good, and apply for any and ALL scholarships available. You will also have to fill out your financial aid information, and that is universal, and here is the link to that:
https://fafsa.ed.gov/index.htm

That's a good start, and good luck to all of the other unemployed or under-employed members of the Monte Carlo Forum Family! Any questions, post them here or pm or e-mail me. Hope this helps someone. God bless you all!

Thanks Space, Hoping to get everything finalized mid-week for classes this May.
Friday the 10th is my deadline with the state for getting everything in. I'm cutting it close, but should make it with hours to spare
The TAA/TRA is the BIG thing here, It's the difference between 1 year of unemployment (maybe) to 2 1/2 years of un-contested unemployment.
