I remember back in the days, shops would have pride in their work. Now it seems that the all-might $$ is whats important. If they did switch heads, then I would try to sue them and get the word out that they are cheating people.

It sounds like shop #1 needs a less passive and less reasonable confrontation - i.e. be a real f'ing ding. You know what they say: It takes a dick to f an a*hole. He wouldn't behave this way if a big jacked up bastard were in his face! I would have lost my mind at the "son" comment, especially after hanging up. I'd throw the head through a window at the shop just to get some attention, then see if conversation takes a different direction

wow becky that sucks!! it never ceases to amaze me how people will not own up to mistakes. like god forbid they f'd it up, because they're the professionals. i hope your son is able to get a lot of business pulled from them from his friends. space is right, word of mouth does go a long way and if he tells a couple people (who tell a couple people who tell a couple people) his experience there - especially with his own knowledge of what he was doing, hopefully that shop will feel the repercussions of their actions. and for the co-owner to act like that, WOW. what a class act (not). does your son know the other owner at all? maybe it would be worth talking to him and telling him to shove his business up his *tailpipe*.

I have my own business so I completely understand the power of word of mouth. Do a great job, tell two friends, do a pi$$ poor job, tell ten.

He had called one of his friends yesterday, then talked to another about 20 minutes later, and that one had already heard from someone else.

I was a little bit worried about him going down there by himself, he has my temper, but he took two friends with him. I'm glad he didn't lose his cool though, it's not worth going to jail over and ruining your life.

I know a mechanic (LOL) that was trained by my late father-in-law (he actually owns the shop that was once my FIL's). My FIL was a great mechanic, but I wouldn't take a Ford to this guy. Don't trust him any farther than I can throw him. Makes you wonder how they have any business at all.
