Sucks about your Tranny - looks like it had a long life though.

Would you do this work yourself or a local mechanic?

Mechanics can sometimes negotiate a better price through a local yard

I told my mechanic that I was strapped for cash and gave them a set price that I could pay and they made it happen. I said even if there is a problem, I need to pay a set labor rate on this job, and if a bolt is seized and you guys take 30 more minutes I can't be charged for it. They were very understanding and I negotiated a flat-rate fee

i would def rebuild the one you got and beef it up, shift kit, swap gearing, upgrade your torque converter. The whole nine yards.

Watch out for AAmco, I was on a trip to 7 springs resort in a 96 Chevy truck, tranny went out. I told them I was sure it would need a complete rebuild as it was leaving a heavy trail of smoke behind. I was getting to my destination for sure. I made it. Anyways, they quoted me $1500 and picked it up. After 3 phone calls later, price was $3100 I think. They knew I was screwed and should haev had my stepdad come with a a trailer and pick us up. Long story short, I got the PA attorney general on it and best he could do was make them refund $300. I was happy since I won....
Edit-and I made it home but 1 week later it had to be rebuilt by the local AAmco. What a joke.

Been down that road before. I spoke with my boss this morning and he told me that our master mechanic could install and or rebuild the transmission in my car for about half the cost of a shop would do it for. He told me to contact LKQ so I've been on hold for about 20min now...

Our mechanic told me he'd install it for $300 and it would take about 6hrs to install.
UPDATE: found a transmission with only 71k on it and LKQ wants only $865 for it! SOLD SOLD SOLD
