If it was my car, and I lost the keys, I would be taking the car to the dealership and getting the locks changed. Same as if I lost my house keys.

if you lost the fob and everything i would be changing the locks... it would be so easy for someone to walk down the street pressing the lock button waiting to hear the car horn beep and then who knows what could happen to it

There is no chip in our keys. The passlock system is not key based like the VATS system in 5th gens.

Our keys and ignition cylinders are built a special way, so that only the properly cut key can turn the full cylinder and hit all the correct sensors before the car can start. Any forcing or pulling on the cylinder will make passlock lock the system down.

Thanks for clearing up my mistake Mike. I'd hate to tell him to buy the key from the dealership when he doesn't have to.

I'd still change the locks though. For the exact reason turbo monte said.

A sincere thanks to everyone for your help and advise!!!... After a 2 1/2 hour walk retracing her steps, we were able to locate the keys just off of the beaten path in a forested area...... First order of business is to go to the dealership and get a spare key and FOB...... Thanks again,

Yeah, very happy to not have to spend the money...... Ordered a factory key from the dealer for $10.00... ... Asked about the FOB, they want $80.00...... Looking to buy it on-line, anyone know of a reputible dealer, or is it just hit and miss on ebay?...... Thanks again...
