Related ArticlesChevrolet reports it has begun shipping the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe to dealers starting today.
The new C7 Corvettes are, of course, assembled at General Motors' Bowling Green Assembly -- about 1,000 Stingrays have been built so far for delivery. Most are expected to be delivered to dealers within the next few weeks.
The Bowling Green plant, opened in 1981, underwent a $131-million upgrade to take on the new Corvette, including about $52 million for a new body shop. The car's all-new aluminum frame will be built in-house for the first time. Meanwhile, the Performance Build Center, a production line for Corvette fans to build their own specialty engines, is moving from Michigan to the Bowling Green, Ky., plant and should be open early next year.
Pricing for the new 2014 Corvette starts at $51,995, including destination, for the coupe and $56,995, including destination, for the convertible. Ragtop production will begin by year end.

Thumbs up "2 dare 2 dream"

Chevrolet Corvette, finally a legit Porsche killer from Detroit

The Chevrolet Corvette has long been viewed as a crude alternative to German sports cars. Not anymore. The 2014 Stingray really gives Porsche a run for the money.

Watch: Inside the brand new Corvette Stingray
I really feel sorry for the Corvette. The poor car's been a really good, credible sports car for a long time, every bit the equal, in terms of driving performance and enjoyment, of cars costing tens of thousands of dollars more.
But it just hasn't gotten the respect. It's been seen as a much lesser alternative to a Porsche for those who just don't have the money to pony up for those Porsche prices. Probably that's because the Corvette costs so much less money, looks so much bigger and it carries its engine out front, like any regular car, not in back. Also, let's face it, it's a Chevy.
Now, with the 2014 Corvette Stingray, that disrespect just needs to stop. I had the chance to drive the new 'Vette on roads and highways not far from San Francisco and, while today's Corvette is not bad, this one's better. It feels even quicker, more nimble, more intuitive and it's lots more fun.
NEXT: Good looking. Inside, too!
