Default Car for an 18 yr high school grad...

My sisters son is looking at cars, he has $3500 as a down payment and most likely can afford about $200 a month. Although most of us here grew up with whatever car we could use from the parents....Mine was a 2-door Chevy Caprice classic 2-door that was purchased for $500 from my moms friend. It was a great car but I really didn't know what I had at that age..... Second car was also a borrow car from the parents, an 86 Honda Civic, nice car, and great gas mileage . On to my sisters kid, he is currently looking at a 2011 Nissan Altima 4-door for $14,900, I think that is more a family car or older persons car and not for an 18 year old? I think he needs something a little more sporty and the Nissan is not the kind of car for him. I think with him, it's more of how new it is rather than anything? Most kids now days have big dollar signs in their eyes when they start to make money and think they can buy anything they want? He's a good kid and going to start a local college next year, maybe he is better off in the 4-door???? I don't know, oh well. Any thoughts just for the hell of it??

He doesn't or hasn't even mentioned anything like that. Hell, I'd put money into my 5th gen and drive that. Kids these days don't want to have anything that needs work, just my opinion.......

Since you are from Pittsburgh and I am too, I am guessing he is as well but he should probably have something front wheel drive for the snow or all wheel drive. I do like the all wheel drive legacy and the one with the v6 would be pretty sporty and it would be still a 4 door and can keep insurance down a bit.
