Toshibas are known for hardware failures earlier than any other manufacturer of computers. I personally stay far away from Toshiba's no matter how good of a price because of the amount of times i have repaired them for people. Many of the repairs are done within a year or two of the purchase and some of the warranty repairs dont even solve the problem and a new laptop is issued. Even the replacements tend to have the same failures. They have improved in the last two years but i am still repairing 2-3 a week because of simple engineering mistakes like proper airflow across the processor.

Thanks for the additional help, guys. I'm looking at those three additional choices now. Unfortunately, the bill for my hand from the occupational therapy hospital came today and was $318. Now I have to decide whether to just pay that off and try to squeeze another year out of the old laptop, or get the laptop and make payments to the hospital.

I just got a laptop a few months ago, also a Toshiba Satellite. Basically the same model, just the 14 inch version. Very happy with it so far. It's not the best when it comes to gaming, but for videos and everything else it is perfect for. I'd say go for it.

Thought I'd give a quick update. I believe I'm going to try to nurse my laptop along a while longer. My Pace Car needs 2 new tires. Since the previous owner replaced 2 of the NASCAR tires last year and now the other 2 are shot (actually, they were shot when I bought the car LOL), I believe I'm going to splurge on 2 new raised white letter Goodyear NASCAR tires. That's going to be well over $300, but still less than a new laptop. Normally I replace 4 at a time, but this is kind of a special situation, with the 2 not being that old and the car not being driven that much. If I had to do all 4, I'd probably have to go with a cheaper blackwall, so here's my chance to keep the NASCAR Eagles.

sounds like a good idea, especially if you don't drive it that much! I was gonna say go to bed, but you don't start until 11pm tomorrow night, either way congrarts and just hang in there! I've been at my job now for 11 years and I never expected to be there this long! later man, have a great day at work.
