One big divide with the Monte heritage/legacy is also that it switched from RWD to FWD. This became a bit of a turning point for multiple reasons:
- No more "rear ends"
- Switch from carbs to fuel injectors
- Suspension changes to accommodate different drive wheels
- Change in electronics and safety systems (such as I don't think any RWD Montes had an air bag, but I could be wrong)
- Methods of tuning became much more PCM (computer) then before
- The V8 muscle was removed, not to return until '06 and '07 (having a large scale impact on people viewing the Monte as a "Muscle Car". This along was probably a single large hit to the enthusiasts.
I'm sure there is a host of other significant changes at that milestone.
Considering MCF came up in the "Internet Age" when FWD Montes were popular and the current production model, much of our membership and information has been provided by FWD owners. Now that there is no "current" production Monte, many other Monte sites have unfortunately closed up, leaving MCF.com as one of few left.
I really hope we can enjoy the company of all Monte enthusiasts, including our RWD brothers and sisters. It's all up to how everyone chooses to participate.
Me personally, I love PICS! I love when people show pics (and write ups) of mods or restorations (anywhere that something is being done). But, by the same, I enjoy pics where people show case their ride. If you take your Monte to a car show, throw a couple of pics on MCF.com to share your fun.
Me too!
One thing iv noticed is a lot of the younger members have a different value set than the old school guus and they are frequenting the MCF FB. Sometimes they talk crap and don't have to worry about repercussions for taking the joking a little to far. And its easier cause they are already using FB. I use the MCF FB to share things and have been working on. But for serious help I turn to you guys most the time.

yea, i think its just whats going on in peoples life, when i was working 2 jobs i barely had any time, tomorrow is my last day at the nursing home ive been working at for 4 years and i will be back to working one job...will miss the people there and the memories...whoo the trouble i got into there haha
I'm not going anywhere. I might not get on as much as I would like but I LOVE the forum. It's the friendliest one I have ever been on. Everyone is so helpful and considerate. My Monte isn't going anywhere either. She has been one great vehicle and very reliable. I have only had very small issues with it and they were to be expected for the age. I can't believe it is 12 years old this year. I have some small rust issues sadly but come spring they will be fixed. Everyone loves my car just as much as me. When I tell people how old it is they can't believe it. My favorite thing was when I was in the drive thru at McDonalds and these two teenage girls came outside and saw my car. They walked up to the back so they could read the emblem and I saw them mouth "Monte Carlo" with an interested look on their face lol. They just kept staring at it as they walked away. Made me happy lol.
From what I've seen- car forums in general seem to slow down a bit over winter. There aren't many meets going on- some members put their cars away for winter storage, etc with the exception of members from the southern states.
Add to that the recent decline in general over the last 2-3 years across all Wbody boards (not saying this forum is W body specific, but as mentioned above- it does make up a large portion of our membership), and that makes for a rather slow winter season here.
I'd bet it will pick back up in the spring a bit as members get out and start polishing their cars for spring pictures/mods again.
Unfortunately, with the cars not being made for awhile- and the prices really dropping, I don't really see many more of the big builds happening. I would imagine there will always be people doing budget builds- bolt on top swaps and such; just not as likely to see new people dumping $5k on a turbo kit with a car that's only $2k.
