Ouch. Okay yeah nothing is going to be reused there.

I would see if the transmission could power the 3500. Or just take a chance with a junkyard transmission that will work. It will be much more cost effective to get the 2006 running, than trying to reuse the drivetrain from your 2002.

I am going to side with Chibi.
- The 2002 still uses a throttle cable, the 2006 is drive-by-wire (electronically controlled).
- The 2006 model year, GM changed the networking between modules in the car. They also changed ALL the wiring, fuse panels and junction boxes.
Those reasons above are why taking the engine and trans for the 02 and dropping them into the 06 is NOT a straight up job. Anything is possible with money, time and willing to experiment. But in my book, the only was to make the job "easy", you would end up gutting the 06 down and then swapping ALL the wiring, modules, fuse panels, everything into the 2006 (under the skin, they are both 99% the same car). And this is a TON of work for a daily driver.

Some other options:
- Find out what is really wrong with the trans and have it serviced.
- See if the 3400 4t65e can swap in place of the one on the 3500. They should, but you may have different gearing or some weird mid product changes.
- Another option, not a run of the mill options (personally not something I would entertain for a daily driver)... The 3500 and 3400 use the same block, just different bores for the cylinders. Many 3400 performance guys will use the heads, lower and upper intake from a 3500. They bolt right up and allow more air flow. They end up with an adapter and different throttle body. You could try that idea. Use the 3400, bot the head, lower and upper intake and throttle body from the 3500 and the 3400 transmission. But, to pull this off, you would also need to have the PCM tuned for this set up.
