My wife was driving my 2003 SS while her acura was being fixed. Drove it 50 miles with no coolant and needless to say I need a new engine. I want to swap from the 3800 to one of the newer 5.3 LS4s. Is there a thread about doing such a swap? Things I might need to tell my mechanic? The current engine and trans have over 200K so Im thinking a trans swap will be in order as well. Will I need any changes to the cpu/pcm codes for everything work? I found the following engine on Morad and it basically has everything, <80K mi engine, trans, elec harness, cpu/pcm and everything. IS this a good price and will it fit my needs? Im sure someone has asked this before so if there is an existing thread an link to it will be great. Thanks!

You need to rewire A LOT of the car, including the internal electricals just to do this swap.

L67 swap would be the best bet. Much much easier.

 

I looked into this a bit while I was bored. Best bet is to get a full pullout, computer, engine, tranny, etc. The motor mounts are different too I think. I would honestly just look for a whole wrecked 06-07 SS and swap in what you need. Gonna be a giant pain for the power.


I would put that money into getting your wife some automotive schooling.
