Default A stuck temperature guage

The temp. guage on my 2001 is not registering any temperature at all. On April 5 I left Florida going to TN. The temperatures were below freezing here. My poor car had never seen snow let alone freezing temperatures before. I had no problem in FL butnow there is a whinning sound coming from the engine and the guage is not working. If I drive the car for awhile the noise in the engine will stop but will sometimes start up again and then stop again. There are no indicator lights coming on. What is the problem and should I have this fixed before I head back to FL?

Frozen in TN!!!

Probably just your t-stat. It is probably stuck open. Mine had did the same thing about two months ago. I'll bet your heater don't get very warm either. I replaced my t-stat and everything started working again. I replaced it with a stock unit.

I always recommand replacing the sensor at the sametime since it is right there.
It should only cost an extra 17 bucks or so....

i say the same thing...if your there changing the t-stat you may as well do the coolant temp sensor @ the same time..its cheap and its an easy fix...and a big headache if you have to tear it all apart again if the t-stat wasn't the only problem... its a pain in the but doing the same job twice
