Radiator fans not working on 2004 MC 3.4L
Hi guys, I am new to this forum. And I am glad that there is a forum for Monte Carlos
I need help as my 2004 Monte Carlo LS 3.4 L radiator fans not working on it. I have changed the thermostat, coolant sensor, fans. The fans don't turn on, not even the ac fan. Car just heats up? Any other things it might be?
Thanks,
Rob

I recently noticed my engine overheating on idle. The fan seems to have resistance so I assume the bearings are fine. I'm doing car repairs via YouTube with very little mechanical experience and would like to know where to begin diagnostics without costing me a fortune. Single female on a state employee budget, lol. Also recently the I had to change out the alternator and now my "high beam out" light is on and my horn isn't working. Any assistance would be appreciated. And, since the temp is cooling when driving is it okay to drive the vehicle under these conditions until I have the time and money to do the repairs? Can't afford to miss work but don't want to blow the engine.
The first thing to check with any electrical issue is the fuse box. 1) is the fuse blown? 2) does the circuit have power?
Most likely this is a bad thermostat, which is an inexpensive part and one you can almost certainly change yourself. No one else will say this, but if you're willing to shut the engine off at red lights, you can probably get by until you can do the repairs. I'd skip the Starbucks and get the thermostat, myself.

I guess I forgot to mention, I already changed the thermostat, that was my first thought. I suppose I'll have to get savy on the fuses and go from there. Lol on the Starbucks, not really my cup of tea....Thank you.

Both my fans went out and I drove like that for about 2 years.. Were lucky enough that the old "turn on the heater" trick works.. As long as it wasnt 100 degrees outside and at a dead stop for 15 minutes it never went above 3/4.. I always left myself a "way out" in case I DID have to pull over and let it cool off but yea, in 2 years it never went above 3/4.. In a more "worrisome" situation I would turn the heat on before I would have to sit..
There were many MANY times we had to sit in traffic for 5-10 minutes during the summer months.. I never did any damage..
Again, im not suggesting anything (other than replacing the fans) because you can ruin your engine in as little as a minute or two if it gets too hot..
Good luck..
