Burgundy 4th-gens look really great when the paint is fresh and clean. The factory paint that faded to purple looks like crap though.

I've always been a fan of white Montes - in fact, the '76 Monte was white with burgundy interior, one of my old '85 SS's was white/burgundy, my former daily-driver '87 SS was white/burgundy, and my '88 SS is white/burgundy. My other '85 SS was white/gray interior. MouSe, after seeing yours, I think I'm pretty set on finding a white one for myself!

What's so bad about the DoD around town, the way it operates? How much of a gas-mileage penalty is there if you get the DoD tuned out? Or is there a way to only activate the DoD at highway cruise speeds?

I've owned only one semi-powerful FWD car; it was an '87 Shadow with the 2.2 Turbo motor. When the boost kicked in, the torque steer was ridiculous, especially in the rain. I never had an issue with the other FWD stuff I've owned, like my wife's old 3.8L '93 Regal or my old 3.1L '96 Cutlass.

DoD is meant for highway cruising, not city stop and go. On the highway my car is ALWAYS in 4cyl mode, only kicking into 8cyl mode to refresh the exhaust gasses in the unused 4 cylinders. Around town it cycles back and forth so much that it makes it useless pretty much. From what I've read on LS1tech.com, the people who drive city only and turned off the DoD either gained MPGs or didn't see a drop, but always had constant V8 power.

Oh yeah, and the comment about the burgundy...I agree with you. My mom's 86 SS never had factory paint on it after we bought, because well we bought it with a salvage title. We've also repainted it once ourselves, so it's pretty slick. I'll have her email me a pic or a few of it so y'all can see it.

Ah, I see. Yep, I'm near the Meadowlands area; close enough to get to almost everything (the stadium, NYC, etc.) in about 1/2 hour or so. Wayne is a really nice area - I went to William Paterson from '91-'96 so I'm a bit familiar with the town. Got a few tickets there too back in my young and wild days.
