6th Gen ('00-'05): New Car, Maybe????
HEY everyone,
A guy at work will bring pictures tomorrow for me to get an idea.
It is a 2002 Silver Monte Carlo SS with 118k miles. A little rust but I'll find out. My guess is around the front fender.
It is for sale because the owner is 80 years old and cannot get his license cause of vision.
The price is $2,600.
Should I? If I do I have to get rid of my current 2001 Monte 3400 with 138k miles.
Your thoughts and help is always appreciated.

You'd have to look at a few things. For starters, what kind of condition is yours in? Does it have rust/dings, etc.
Secondly, I take it you're going to be selling the Monte privately, will the purchase hurt you while you wait to sell your current? The difference in miles isn't enough to justify it in my opinion. The only real gains will be the few extra options that the SS models came with stock.
But really, just compare them apples to apples, make sure you're not going to be taking a loss somewhere in the trade.

I agree not sure if it's worth the hassle unless it's significantly better. Any issues with yours? If yours is running good I wouldn't jinx that and get a different one. It may end up costing you more, there's really no way to tell.
Good luck either way

The price is fair on paper, but as everyone said, what condition is it really in?
The questions come down to:
- Were you looking to get rid of your current Monte to get an SS model?
- Can you afford juggling both cars until one is sold?
- Is the condition of this Monte significantly better then your current one?
Keep in mind, as much as we value our cars, as much money as we put into them.... Sadly, cars are the WORST investment you can make (as they depreciate and take a long time before they have an upswing). Unless this fits the bill for something you NEED (such as it appears it could serve you better then the current one you have) or you were in the market for an SS, I'd skip.

Who doesn't love an SS anyways. I may have a few people to buy mine.
It's in Canal Fulton.
@zzapultimate I understand the jinx thing too.

I'll find out.

I wish you luck in making your decision Bait.
Without going into all the details, a month after I bought my '02 Grand Am (to replace my '94 Grand Am winter beater), I almost bought a different car. My biggest issue in that case was I would then be selling the '94 and the '02 at the same time. It caused me a LOT of thinking and I stuck with the gut and kept the '02 Grand Am.
Just think about all the angles. One of the biggest, how much will it all cost you and is the car worth it in the end. Only you can make that choice
