My rear view mirror is damaged and I would like to replace it. It has OnStar and auto dimming. I found a replacement that looks exactly the same. I am wondering is this a plug and play type of repair. Or will there be programing issues or something since OnStar is involved? Anyone out there that has done this would appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks for listening.
Well hang on.. I was talking with someone on here a couple months ago (@GreyGhost?) and I think he said there are two different kinds. Something about pin count in the plug maybe. Ill try to find the topic.
EDIT: Cannot find the thread but im almost certain it turned out that the mirror I had was different from his although they both were auto dimming with on star.

I am aware of the two types of mirrors. The one I am going to order is identical to the one I have in my vehicle now. Everything matches down to the numbers on the back as well as the plug in. Thank you for you assistance!!!!

Onstar vs non-Onstar mirrors do have different connectors, correct.
How to remove 2000 Monte Carlo SS rear view mirror
My rear view mirror was heat damaged when I bought it. I couldn’t find an explanation of how to pull it off so after messing with needle nose pliers and a flathead i tried removing what I thought was the cover with a pair of vice grips… got more than I bargained for. If you encounter this type of mount, just slide a flat head in from the top and torque down and the mount will come off the base. I’m new to working on cars… so I’ll file this as a lesson learned. Sweet car though!
So far I’ve replaced the EVAP Solenoid, gas cap, wipers, a Y joint to bring windshield fluid to the wipers, flasher switcher, and multi- function switch. Next up is the bumper.
