what engine oil are you guys/gals using

I would've went with synthetic if I had bought the car new or at least with a lot less miles on it. I was told it was too high mileage to switch to synthetic and might start leaking so I use Castrol gtx 10w-30 and AC Delco filter.

I have a 1989 Chevy Silverado C/K 2500 truck with a 5.7L V8...It was on conventional oil it's whole life at 5,000 mile intervals. At 190,000 miles, I switched it to Shell Rotella T full synthetic 5w-40, the truck now has 231,000 miles original engine and tranny. After sitting over night, the truck used to put out a poof of gray smoke when I started it. Since switching to synthetic, it puts out zero smoke, no matter how long it sits. I just don't stretch the drain intervals on the truck like I do with my Monte, I have stuck with changing every 5K, just because their is so many oil deposits in the engine from conventional oil...But the synthetic actually helps clean that up a bit. I think the switch to synthetic is always a good thing, regaurdless of milage. I think all synthetics these days are 100% compatible with conventional oil, it will tell you right on the back of the bottle.

i have used the expensive k&n and mobil 1 filters a number of times. i would cut them open after each oil change (7500mi usually with mobil 1 or penzoil plantinum) and they would look virtually spotless. i figured i would save my money and start using delcos. i've cut them open at the same interval with the same oil and everything still looks great. i'm sticking with the delcos.

I haven't had to change the oil yet, but when I do, which is coming up soon, I'm going with Fully Synthetic Valvoline and a Valvoline oil filter. I've always used them, never had any oil related problems. My step-dad has always used them and he hasn't either.

Ac Delco filters are supposed to be good.....Good to know that you really didnt see much inside the filter when you opened it. Not that there should be dirt inside your engine anyway.
