Default Weird Noise When Supercharger Kicks In?

The Car: 05 Monte Carlo SS 3.8L V6 Supercharged

This just started happening today; I was driving down the road and heard a weird noise once the Supercharger kicked in. It kinda sounded like rocks & metal grinding together, or like the pulley was rubbing dry (best way I can describe it). I read somewhere on this forum about changing the S/C oil, and possibly the coupler too. Any other ideas or suggestions?

I would change the oil for sure, and maybe see if the pulley is loose. If that doesn't fix it, then I'd be worried about something in the SC being broken.

Cool thanks. I'll definitely do that. Hopefully it's just the oil.

Yea check the oil but really, Id stay out of the supercharger until you get it looked at.. It sounds like it could be knock. Lets hope not but.. Coupler could be the issue..

Think of it this way..

The supercharger is always spinning, why wouldnt you always hear the sound? It only happens under boost..

yeah, I checked the belts and they're fine, I'm picking up S/C oil later today. Well see if that does anything, if its just the oil then a $24 fix is easy. It doesn't sound like KR though. Hopefully it's nothing more, well see.

Older thread for sure, but did changing your SC oil help with the noise?
