Default transmission problem?

Here is my problem.... I have an 03 Monte Carlo SS 3.8L, 104000 miles. ....

I will start my car, put her into drive, try to accelerate and it will hestitate to go, usually between .5 and 2 seconds until it finally jerks/catches and goes. My transmission fluid level is fine, maybe slightly low, tested in neutral while semi-hot. This doesn't always necessarily happen when I first start up either. Sometimes I will come to a stop light or sign, wait several moments, and it will do it again. Also, it doesn't happen all the time, maybe 1 in 10 times I accelerate. It did it back during the winter and it does it now even when its warmer out. All other shifting seems fine...1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd and so on. I'm not sure whats up? At first I replaced my spark plugs because I thought maybe the engine was misfiring. Now, I'm going to replace my wireset to rule that out and I'm also due a change. Any help would be appreciated, I am going to have this tested out this weekend and feedback would be great so that I know what I'm playing with here. Also, any figures on how much it may cost to have fixed?

Thanks, Luke.

it just sounds like your transmission is starting to slip. I dont know of anything you could do other than a rebuild on it. im guessing your not the original owner? was it mis-used?

no, I'm not the original owner and couldn't tell you if it was misused or not, surely not by me.

Does it stall at all when you approach a stop sign? It sounds like it could be a torque converter maybe? Good Luck!

no, it doesn't stall at stops. So far, I'm thinking that it is the torque converter or maybe the first gear clutch pack.
