I have a 2000 mc and i am changing the tie rods but ran into a major hurdle.I can't get the outer to unscrew.Is there any trick to this that I'm misssing.

 

If I recall (as I have yet to do one myself, but watched it being done on a similiar year Grand Prix), you need two wrenchs. One holds a nut on the end of the tie rod, the other holds the tie rod itself. It uses a nut to help hold/lock the tie rod in place.

It might also help to hit it with a penetrating oil/spray like PB Blaster before starting. You will also need a pickle fork or ball joint seperator to pop the tie rod out where it's at on the strut or steering knuckle. I found I prefer the Harbor Freight ball joint seperator, works nice, easy and cheap.

 

Thanks. got a friend bring zep over now that my ride is down , hopefully this will do it. been trying with vise griops to break it but no luck.Not enough room to get a good swing with some force using a hammer.
