Default temp gauge/warning lights

I have a 2000 monte ss that is killing me with problem after problem.
The Low coolant light is on even though the coolant level is fine. I have the temp gauge not working intermittently and when the gauge doesnt work you turn the car off and the aux fan runs for quite a while. Also this morning while the gauge wasnt working, I was driving and all of a sudden the battery light went on and the volt meter pegged to the left. Went off after a few minutes and volts went back up.
Anybody got any Ideas before I try the dealership. I have put almost $7000 into this thing in the last 6 months!!![:@]

Hi Michelle, & Welcome to the MCF.
Sorry to read that you are having problems with your Monte : (
How many miles are on your Monte ?
How long have your owned it ?
How has it been maintained ?
Do you know the previous owner(s) ?
Was it ever in a flood ?
Have you replaced the themostat ?
Flush the coolent system ?
Check to make sure the battery connectionsare tight ?
It sounds like a short in your electrical system, but it's
hard to determine, just by the written posted words : (
Please post the answers to the above questions, and it will
help one of our expert members to `help you.
Be Patience please, for your answers.
We hope the Monte Carlo Family can help you. [8D]
Look forward to your post answers.
Good Luck, `Space

My monte has 114,000 miles on it. Never been in a flood or anything like that. I have owned it for 5 years and work at a car dealership so maintaining it is easy. Has oil changes on time, new tires, transmission, upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, mass airflow sensor. Never had the cooling flushed that I know of. Hope this helps....

Hi Michelle,
You posted that you work at a dealership.
Have you just asked the `Tech's in the Service
Dept. about your Monteproblems.
Wouldn't they give you a `free estimate ?

I have asked the techs, my only problem is I work at a dodge dealer and they dont know much about chevrolets. They have some ideas, but dont know if it would be the same on other makes and models.

in regard to the low coolant light only, read this

https://montecarloforum.com/m_56914/tm.htm

it may be that the coolant level sensor and the coolant temp sensor are both covered with crap/oxidized dex-cool/mucky whatever it is. might try removing it to see if its covered up. as for the other gauge issues, i have no idea.

i had the same problem on the temp gauge and the fans running. it is the thermastat is hung open. i'm sure of it. and as for the low coolant level light. there is asensor on the side of the radiator for this and they are nortourious for not working. that is if you aren't low on coolant

replace the tstat and the cooling temp sensor...they run bout $20 together...that should take care of ur gauge problem if your coolant low light is still on then replace the coolant level sensor on ur radiator but i would replace the temp sensor and tsat first...they r much easier to get at and will hopefully solve ur problem
