Default Temp Gauge

2001 Monte SS (97500 miles) - Last week the Temp gauge (stock) didn't budge for a good 2 hours. Since then, it's been OK. Question, is there a sensor that could be going? If so where is it located and is it an easy fix? Anyone had similar problems?

Any info appreciated.

Thanx!

Default RE: Temp Gauge

coolant temp sensor could be going...

its right beside the t-stat(on most vehicles...not 100% sure on ours as i haven't had to change it yet)

it should be where the upper rad hose meets the block is where the t-stat will be, change that and this sensor and should fix your problems

Default RE: Temp Gauge

When the temp gauge wasn 't working, was it on a cool day? And when it started working, had the outside temperature warmed up a little. It could be your thermostat is stuck open. That's what happened to my 01SS. I replaced the thermostat and now my gauge works just fine. A lot of people replace the sensor and the thermostat at the same time. That's probably a good thing to do since you have to drain the radiator to do both. But for me I just replaced the thermostat and all is well. Hope this helps.
