Default Temp gauge

My temp gauge doesn't like cold weather. It works fine in the summer but as soon as the weather gets cold, it goes flat.
Disconnecting the battery grnd resets it. I've checked and reseated all the connectors I can find. From the sensor, to a two wire plug/jack. to the multi wire plug/jack that mates the engine to the electrical system. Some of the protective wire conduit is gone from the wires leaving the sensor to the first plug/jack, but the wires don't touch any metal. A new temp sensor fixed it for about two weeks, then it went dead during a highway drive. Even when it is working, it reads low. I don't know what to try next. Replace the conduit? A thermostat? I don't know...

Default RE: Temp gauge

Duh! Installed a new thermostat and things are back to normal. Gauge is reading just about halfway.
I thought it was an electrical problem, but I guess not. Thanks to the MCF members!
