Default engine temp gauge not working

All of a sudden it stopped working. Also, my fans have been running(c'mon, it's 40 degrees out). I'm assuming it's a sensor. Anyone had this same problem and where is the temp sensor???

Thanks for any reply!

Hello. Same problem just happened to my 2000 SS today. Fans stayed on after car was turned off. Tried putting key back in and cycling ignition switch to on position only (not to start car) and fans turned off...but temp guage (needle) still not working. Can you describe where the temp sensor is and how to get to it. Please. Thanks in advance.

ok, sorry I haven't gotten to you sooner. Look below the thermostat housing, right next to the exhaust. It's not easy to get to. I had to use a long extension with a swivel. Be careful though I busted the old one taking it out. When you put the new one in make sure you have some sealant or teflon tape on the threads( you don't want to have to remove it aain). I had to keep putting the swivel in a certain position for it to turn without alot of tension on the sensor. The main problem is the sensor is angled downward.

*Be sure to disconnect battery for about 10 min and reset the computer. My gauge would not work until I did so.

If your thermostat is bad, it will make your car have the same symptoms
