and i have run nothing but castrol gtx highmiliage in it since we've bought it and am thinking of going synthetic... is there any truth to this?that its bad? or should i be all good?

I think you should be fine! Just use the same grade of oil in a synthetic form so if your using 10w-40 Castrol, then stick with 10w-40 synthetic.
I switched my truck to synthetic at 205,000ish miles, and now i'm at 230,000 with no problems at all.
I am a 100% believer in synthetics!
