Oil Additives bad on high mileage engine?
I have a 04 Monte Carlo SS with a 3800. The car has 114,000 miles on it and I just filled the oil from the engine with some high mileage gtx 5w-30. I know the higher mileage oil has a lower viscosity to make the engine run better.
With that being said, I just also poured a high viscosity oil treatment in since I just put in some oil as well. It was supposed to help get the break up gunk inbetween parts inside. I was just told that it can be bad for older engines because it makes the high viscosity makes the engine work harder.
Even with 114k, it is still running fine. I just poured the additive in last night so I haven't drove it that much..
Could someone shed some light on whether this was good or bad for my bat mobile?
On another note, I use fuel injectors somewhat frequently. I just want my car clean.

If you already have a leak, cleaning it will only make the leak worse in most cases. Since sometimes the gunk that you are cleaning out, acts as the seal to a leak. But if you aren't leaking, you won't be hurting.

i haven't used engine oil additives much in the past, but when i did, i used "restore". i don't think you can do too much harm with engine additives. imo i think your engine will be ok. if i was you, maybe on the next oil change just stick with the high mileage oil. if you stay religious with your oil changes and warm it up properly on the cold days your engine should stay pretty clean anyways
as far as your fuel injectors go, i have used stp fuel injector cleaner with no problems. i have also heard good things about 3m's fuel injector cleaning treatment.

Just put a can of Seafoam in your gas tank once a year. 1 can in tank that's 1/4 full, and then fill the tank, and drive until you are about 1/4 tank again.
No need to keep buying fuel injection cleaners. Save some of that money, it's not doing much.
And about every 2 years, dump 1/2 can of Seafoam into your crankcase about 50 miles before your oil change.
And if you are really feeling like cleaning your engine, take the vacuum line for the brake booster, and you know that 1/2 can of Seafoam that you would have left over? Suck it up into there, let it sit for 30 minutes, start your car and let it SMOKE all over (if the engine has a lot of carbon buildup) and then drive it like you stole it until it stops smoking.
Do the oil and the vacuum every 30,000 miles and stop wasting your money on other things.
