500$ no way! I don't care if it was both fans the shroud and the module there is no flipping way it should cost that...

oh, and btw, if it's a low-capacity shop (like only a couple of bays) they will usually try to get at least 500$ out of you each time... Just incase they're not busy for a few days. I had a shop tell me 500$ to do an O2 sensor and an Alternator.. I bought the parts and did both in 30 minutes and drove up there said thanks for the info, fixed it myself. parts were less than 100$

I just went through the same thing with my 2000ss. I replaced the t-stat first, when that did no good I flushed the system and the flushcaused the radiator leak so I replaced it. After that it still ran hot. I replaced the t-stat with the new hypertech and it still ran hot. I had the entire fan assembly checked and still no answer. I finally took it to a local shop and they kept it for three days checking everything from top to bottom and finally the guy asked me if I had taken the front air dam off for any reason. I remembered that I removed it when I did the flush. He said that was it because he had just went through it with a 2000 pontiac a week ago; same story, running hot after changing the t-stat, radiator, and even changing the water pump when it was fine and after they put the air dam back on it the temp went right back to normal. He told me that the space where the radiator it on those cars is so tight that air has a hard time getting to it in order to cool properly and the air dam is designed to push the air right to it. After a month of going through that crap it was the f'ing air dam! It was my fault but damn I could have avoided all that if I would have put the thing back on after the flush. I just wanted to keep someone else from going through the same crap.
