Default Still running hot...

Recently my temp guage was showing I was running hotter then normal and soon my check engine light came on. I replaced the thermostat and it was still running hot. I took it to autozone and they plug me in and they said it was the sensor. So I replaced the sensor and it's still not fixed. I'm not losing any fluids but I do smell it sometimes. Also, the temp is fine when riding down the highway, but in stop and go situations it nearly overheats.

I have a stock 3800.

Any ideas?

Interesting. I wondered if that would do any good. It's cheap enough to try.

Thanks.

Try a 180 TStat while you are at it.

Are they commonly carried at autozone or advanced auto parts?

When it starts to run hot, do you hear the cooling fan turn on?
When it start to run hot, try turning the a/c on, if it starts to cool
off most likely your engine fans are not coming on.
If it is, how bad was the anti-freeze that you removed?
Also check to make sure that you dont have anything blocking the radiator
such as dirt or trash that you could have picked up while going down the road

I tested to see if the fan was coming on, and it does come on when it starts to run a little hot. Also, when driving around with the a/c on it gets hot but when I turn the a/c off it tends to cool down.

There is no trash of any kind on the radiator.

Thanks for replying.

I've installed the 180 T stat and from just driving around that parking lot at work (it's big) it appears to be better.I need to take a longer drive to be 100% sure.

I drove around for awhile last night and I believe the problem is fixed now. I suppose the first T stat was bad. I dunno. Thankfully it's a cheap part so no biggy.
