Default !996 z34 running HOT

Wassup guys !!my car has been running HOT lately. I can drive for the car around the city with little stop and go and the car will run fine without overheating. I was driving on the interstate today and noticed that the tempature was slowly rising and eventually the "HOT" warning came on and then the tempature dropped. I then exited to interstate and white sitting the the light on the ramp the tempature on the car rose again, i then cut the car off and heard some knocking noise under the hood. So can you guys let me kno some thing so that i can try to find the problem!

My first thoughts are - low on coolant - which means there's a leak somewhere, or if the coolant level is ok, an issue with the water pump or a gunked up radiator. That knocking noise when you shut off the motor could have been coolant boiling in the heads. Since the temp is fluctuating so much, I'm thinking that it could be low on coolant and the water pump is occasionally sucking air instead of coolant.

Do you have air in the system? Try bleeding it out, after you check all your fluids.

You could have your coolant starting to gunk up, Dex-cool likes to do that when it's exposed to air, I would recommend a good coolant flush if it's been more than 2 years.
