Default shut door and passenger window dropped down about 1/2 way, anyone have this before?

Wife and Son were out shopping, they say they just closed the passenger door and the window dropped down about 1/2.

I looked at it, it slides freely up and down, I didn't let it get all the way down cause I thought I would loose it below the weather strip.

2002 Monte Carlo SS High Sport 89xxx miles.

it is an extra car, no time to look at it now, but if you've been thru this let me know, I should have time later in the week to deal with it.

Thanks all.

had some time to dig into it last night...

got the door all opened up and had to remove the power window track and motor to see what happened.

There are two sides to the track this is how they both should look with the cable ends in the slide

This is how one of mine looks, the cable pulled right through the plastic.

New part on order should be here in less than a week, until then she sleeps in the garage.

Hi Space, hope your day is going well.

Part was cheap, about 60-70 dollars. Easy enough to do, only tip I have is make sure to tape your window up (use painters tape) before disconnecting the motor and slide track and then don't untape it until you have the new track in (I made that mistake - sometimes I can't leave well enough alone, but I got it back up and taped in position waiting for the track)

There is a good video on utube if you search monte carlo power window

Yep thanks for posting Space, the first video is the one I watched.

Part arrived on Friday and was installed that night.

It really is that easy.

Advice would be don't remove yours until the new one arrives.
One: less time you need to rely on tape to hold window, and
Two: less time you need to remember what goes where.

Car is back up and available for driving.
