Service Airbag Light! ARG!!!!
Before you lay-out any big bucks for the Airbag system ... do some testing to see if its not a case of "System Under-voltage detection". The car was laid-up. The Battery wasn't being maintained to keep it tip-top. Now, it might be close to the point where the charging current of the alternator can't give the Battery sufficient energy to satisfy the demands of the Ignition, Lighting and Accessories with enough reserve to satisfy the Voltage needed by the Airbag circuit.
Put the Battery on an Automotive Charger and bring it in to be Load Tested after its been fully charged. If the Battery can't provide enough Amps ... have the Alternator Output checked.
If the Alternator is providing enough current ... but the ZBattery fails the Load test ... you could try getting a new Battery and seeing what happens.
If you want to see if the system is starved for current ... start the car and see if he Airbag warning is on ... if it is ... hook-up the charger and see if it goes out.
they may have not checked in the correct place for the code. the sensor up front could be a loose connector from the accident or whatnot. and for the other case.... a clockspring keeps the airbag and horn connected even though your turning the steereing wheel. can be difficult to replace. airbag removed. steering wheel removed, clockspring is under that and needs to be removed/unplugged but shoot, id do it for $500 parts included and still make out good if thats what they were charging.lol
I am having the same problem with my 2001 LS, airbag light stays on... when i cycle the igntion, the fuse pops.. Today its ironic that I bumped into a car stripper..lol, and a fellow Monte guy that have bought parts from, who guts the ss, also, lol, anyhoo, one sad that the problem is the body control module under the passenger seat, which I forgot about, and the other guy that I JUST got off the phone with less than half an hour ago said it is the airbag module, located on the passenger side, next to the headlight, when you lift up the hood you will see it, they do go bad, and n fact, the owner befor me, a giirlfriiend wrecked it and gave t to me w/ 57,000 mles, and I rebuilt it when in auto body school, and I remember that module, the bags didnt deploy.. @ Months ago I bought another Monte SS same year with the exact same hit, bought it from a girl who just got her liesence 3 weeks earlier wrecked it 2 weeks later, and sold it to me for $900 with a new engine, body has 239,000, rust free a clean highway car, no codes, passed both emissions and safety and I put $400 in new parts(hood, fender, bumper cover etc etc) CERTIFIT , is the best and cheapest 90.00 for new hood, sprayed it factory blue which is the same color as the LS, then resprayed hood of LS at the same time ( painted hood 7 years earlier).
Sooo a very long story short, I believe it is the sensor next to the headlight... or the body control module.. usually when your popping fuses it is a short, and if their is water moisture in your carpet, like my LS, which can be caused by the rubber in door going bad, like mine, moisture could have screwed up the BCM under the pass seat.
I will investigate tommorrow, or this weekend and let people know.

EUREKA I FOUND IT I WASNT CRAZY AFTER ALL!!!! GM CAN KISS MY GRITS!!!!
About 30 minutes ago i decided at the last minute to quickly tear into the Monte, I checked the sensor on the radiator support... Check all looked good!, Checked the BCM under the passenfer seat, you have to cut a little wear the carpet is already cut by GM, looked dry and wires looked good.. Check, then to the passenger fise box where the aor Bag sensor thing which sits oin top of the fuse box it is yellow, looked good,... Then over to the drivers side fuse box and saw that wiring went down the side to NEXT TO THE E BRAKE!!!1 LOOKED AT THE WIRES BOOOYYYAAAAHHHHH!!!!! FRAYED AIRRBAG WIREDSA AND A TOTSALLY SEVERED BROWN WIRE WHICH COMMUNICATED DIRECTLY WITH THE AIRBAG INDICATOR IN DASH!!!!!! ( Pat myself on the back!!... connect brown wire.... tape up 2 other frayed wires with electrical tape... put in new fuse RECONNECT BATTERY!!, which is what you do first then wait 10 minutes then proceed) start engine up... no more AIRBAG light.. on to inspection... pass inspection.......NUFF SAID!!!!
Every mechanic thought that I was silly to think that when I played and pumped my Ebrake the light woukld come on sometimes... then go off etc etc, and my radio would turn down then get louder like with that autotune ...The thing is that these idiots put the cluster of wire wrapped up, next to the EBRAKE, so after friction etc over time 12 years(2001, rubbing and whatever the previous owner did, messing witrh wires took a toll and the wire was severed by the sharp metal at the top of the mechanism.. the funny thing is that all this time, I knew it had to be this and I took it everywhere and they would have charged out the whaazooo to troubleshoot with no guarantees..$$$$$$ $AVED!!!!
