Someone actually posted to my old thread tonight. This details my problems that wound up being the ignition switch (was able to keep the same key cylinder)

https://montecarloforum.com/forum/ge...roblems-38266/

Also, I have seen people claim continuing to run with a faulty ignition switch can possibly cause damage to the bcm but DO NOT know if this is factual. Since you can get a switch for $40 dollars or less online it might be cheap insurance as well as a possible fix to your problem. Its an easy repair. Good luck and keep everyone posted.

Rockauto.com is where I get almost all my parts from. Almost always the best deals and fast and reasonable shipping. You may have to use the search by part number tab for this part. For some reason the ignition switch does not show up under the specific car. If you order online through them this code will get you a 5% discount good until 5/19.

Enter the code above in the "How did you hear about us" line of the shopping cart

Unhappy 97 Security and Airbag Flashing/ wont start

I have a 1997 LS that the batter may have gotten low on and that could have tripped the Theft Lock. I was told that that may cause the lock out. the car won't start. Any extra ideas on what it maybe would be great.

Not sure about passlock reset steps for 97 but many posts for 200x and try Impala forums. Make sure your battery is fully charged.
