Default Rich Fuel Mixture

Ok so here is the dealio. For about 8 months my 02 monte Ive had cranking issues where I have to stomp the gas pedal to crank it and always it idles inaccurate and sometimes dies and the check engine light is on. Took to a mechanic and he gave me some bs about the fuel pump being week and I pretty much argued with him that it wasnt but he insisted. So he installed a knew one and it didnt work like I told him. The check engine light came back up so I took it to autozone and the code was rich fuel mixture could this be the regulator, O2, or idle sensor? Also how do I reset the message center without a factory radio?

I would go with the fuel regulator and the o2 sensor.

Yes you can ohm the O2 sensor out. I dont have the spec's for at home.
Keep in mind when you first start the engine cold the O2 sesnor will tell the computer to make the car run rich until it heats ups.

If you are having to hit the gas pedal to start the car, you are putting more air into the engine. Its sounds like it is getting to much fuel which is control by the regulator. If the regulator goes completely bad the only thing that it will do then is dump fuel into the cylinders and flood it out so it will not restart at all.
When this happens you will need to replace the regulator plus the sparks plugs.

Gas does come out the vacum when I unhook it from the regulator after a few seconds is this normal on GM's or should it not spit gas out at all?

yeah fuel coming out the reg is a sign of a bad regulator.... i would first remove the regualtor to make sure the O rings are in place and not damaged.... but chances are its shot.

Ok I took the regulator apart and the o-rings looked pretty good. How hard is it to replace the regulator?
