Default FOB

I have lost the FOB to my 01 monte ss. I was wandering if I can just go on ebay and have the dealership program any FOB to my car... I see that they have GM LEAR #'s and I have no clue what that means, but the FOB ID are all the same. Somestate that they come with programming directions... Does anybody know a little bit more about the keyless entry units for these rides?

I dont know for sure about the montes but for my f-150 I bought one off ebay and all that mattered was that the numbers on the fob matched and it came with instructions. It only consited of a special sequence of turning the key and pushing the buttons. Shoud be easy I would think.

You can program it through your radio.

When I bought my Monte, it only had one key and remote. I had them throw in another one. I brought the car in to have it programmed and after waiting like two hours, I said I had to leave. They told me for some reason they couldn't get to that parameter in the BCM to program the fob. I said I'd be back. When I was home, I read my manual and found I could just do it myself through the radio... no need to go through the BCM.

Iwas checking out the fob's on ebay, so if I purchase this one, it will work ok? The dealership wanted 75$ for a new one that is programmed to the car...

Those are the same numbers off mine for my 01 SS. I'd think they would work fine.
