Radiator Leak
Hey guys! I haven't been on here for a while, but I just found out I have a radiator leak. My garage told me that its a small crack, "dribbling out" as the mechanic put it, which makes sense because I have to add coolant every few weeks, so its not like its pouring out as soon as I put it in. I was wondering if it is worth it to try a sealant first, and if anyone has had any luck with that. Or, should I just come up with the cash to replace the radiator. Thoughts? Thank you!
I have a 2002 SS 3.8

Welcome back!
Were here to help...
Unfortunately, Our Radiators have Plastic tanks connected to Aluminum cores... Its my opinion all the stop leak brands all have a tendancy to clog and gum things up... Not really an option anymore compared to the old copper radiators of the past... Like Bars Leak and or Silver solder etc...
To be safe and for longevity and preservation of the integrity of the cooling system.. I would highly recommend a new radiator...
I hope this helps...even though its probably not what you wanted to hear..

Please keep us informed as what you chose to do with the resolving this leak...
I'm sure someone else will chime in with other thoughts and Ideas.
Thanks, for your dedication for answers/help from the MCF!

I have actually had luck with Bar's stop leak. I have used it in a few different vehicles over the years. I know most are not a fan of it but it has not done me wrong. I have never had it plug a heater core or any other ill effects.
Good luck with whatever option you choose.

I've used that Prestone Rad stop leak stuff on a Honda I own, and all it did was clog my heater core and cause my car to overheat... I had to flush out the system and take thigns apart to pull out cotton fiber like clogs.
. IMHO I'd replace the rad if you plan on driving the car and keeping it.
