Hi im a big time noob on hear i guess you could say.I have a question about how much a carb rebuild for my 78 monte carlo would cost, im in canada and this guy of a friend at his shop told me today it could cost $350 maybe $400. I also have no experince with this and do not want to be ripped off. he charges $77 an hour in labour as the other guy i spoke to charges $102 an hour.I just want to know if this is a normal price,so i dont over pay any feedback would be the world thank you

What engine does your car came with? Heck, you can buy a brand new carburetor for $250. If your car came with a v-8 you have tons of choices. I would look around some more, and maybe even look at a new carburetor instead of rebuilding the one you got.

Some of the choices available to you:
http://www.amazon.com/Holley-0-80770...N%3DB00029J4JC

http://www.amazon.com/Edelbrock-1406...N%3DB000182DIS

There are also 2 barrel carbs out there that will make your car more efficient. Worst case scenario you could always do the carb rebuild your self. It isn't that hard if you can find the manual for it and, if you're mechanically inclined, a lot cheaper than taking it to someone. Google is your friend!

Instructions abound online:

Make sure you remove all hoses, linkages and clean mounting surfaces before installing the new one. If installing the old one back on, at least change the float, replace seals and gaskets and clean it thoroughly.
