Default Please Explain This to me - Dyno Test Results

Ok, I looking at these Magnaflow Dyno Test Results and I thinking... Ok, It looks like the Stock Muffler System is giving the car torque and horsepower across the board until it hits 5200 RMPs and then the power and torque trail off. With the Magnaflow, there is very little horsepower out of the hole and slowly builds up until it comes to life at about 5000 RPMs and the trails off at 5500 RPM.

While you get a 22HP PEAK Gain, if I am reading this correctly (and I don't know it I am), the stock system had more consistant horsepower and torque, and should smoke the Magnaflow system vehicle badly.

SO AM I RIGHT?

The Upper set of lines is torque, the red being magnaflow, and the blue being stock. the lower set of lines, that start at 0 is horsepower, same thing, red magnaflow, blue stock. It shows that the magnaflow actually benefits the car.

Well, first... thank you... Now it makes sense! Second, no... Not only is Pontiac mispelled, but, these have to be the results from a 3.8L, because the 303 HP GXP owner would be pissed with a peak HP of 235HP and 260 peak ft-lbs of torque.

I never really put to much thought into those advertised hp ratings from car manufactures considering all of their information comes from a brake dyno...
I'll take whp over bhp anyday ...

Hello! New to the site, as I have only had my 06SS for 3 weeks now.

One thing I noticed that wasn't mentioned so far is that these numbers for horsepower and torque in the chart are taken at the front wheels. The numbers GM posts for the 5.3 ltr are most like not done in this manner and are taken before the load of the tranny is taken into consideration.

WELCOME TO MCF Ed!!!!

You are correct. The numbers posted by the OEM's are first taken in a controlled environment and not even hooked up to a car.

Also they have a tendancy to skew them so they look better against the competition. Helps them sell better. EG The old 60's Camaros I beleive were rated at around 250ish HP at te crank, but actually produced more than 400 down to the wheels. It made it look stronger against the Mustangs.
