Last week, we had a heavy rain storm and I discovered my passenger carpet was wet. It was not through the cabin air filter or windshield. After pulling it up and drying it, and with a forecast of 4-8 inches more over the coming week, I spent Saturday removing the mirror and replacing the belt molding with a new one (still the original, I did the drivers side years ago.) I also replaced the body to door weather strip (the curve at the dash was brutal) and removed the rubber splash guard at the bottom of the door to make sure all possible drain holes were available. Sunday, I got 4 inches and when I went to check on my work - Fail (photo 1). After drying it once again, I took the mirror back off and put silicon rtv around the seal at the top corner and other areas. The next morning after another rain, I found a baseball-sized puddle on the still bare floor. While I was putting baking soda down to see where it was coming from, it started to rain and I observed the source (photo 2). I put rtv on all of the contact surfaces (photos 3 & 4), including sealing the bottom, and after drying overnight, I sprayed the mirror and door and observed no leak. The rubber window seal shrinks over time and pulls away from the door flange. I also held the upper corner in place with my thumb while it set up so that none of the other rubber surfaces would get crimped. Now that my bcm issue is solved, I can reseal the mirror and window seal on the drivers side and be done with that problem too.
