Hey guys/girls

So my check engine light came on, plug in the reader and code 1404 came up...

that being said, according to my code book that means "EGR Circuit Range/Performance"

but i have no clue what to do about it?

Your EGR Pintle is stuck open. Sometimes carbon buildup can force these to stick, you may have to replace it, but you can get lucky and try to remove / clean it.

If you don't get it fixed, then your car will allow more exhaust fumes into the car than usual

You could start idling rough, having poor acceleration. Plus your emissions will be all sorts of wrong.

word of advice cleanning the egr is a little of a paine. but a new one should be better so you dont have to worrie on yanking off the one you cleaned and doing it again.
