Default No sound from my stereo

I have a Monte Carlo 2004 ss Super charger. One day the speakers started cracking...even with the radio off. Then it just quit playing. The radio still turns on and changes stations or tracks on the cd, but there is no sound. I had a mechanic look at it and he said the amp was bad. I bought another one. It still didn't work. I could have bought a bad amp, or the amp isn't getting any power. I have no idea what has happened. The dealership just wants to charge me a lot of money and put a new stereo in it. They don't want to trouble shoot it. Any ideas? Anyone with the same problem?

Did you buy a new amp? Or a used one?

Then I would venture to guess its no good...
Id take it back to where ever you got it from..get your money back and purchase a new one from the dealer or someone you trust.....
Thats my advice.

Thank you for your advice. I had read some other people's post on here and I wasn't sure if it was wiring or the amp. It would be nice to have another Monte to try them out in! I have been without my stereo for a while now and I love my music. Like everyone here...I love my Monte also. It is my baby.

Yes, it was a factory amp and I bought a used factory amp for replacement off of e-bay.

These cats are notorious for having the 12v wiring running back to the amp getting corroded. It's under the passenger sill panel trim - two orange wires merging into one and should be taped within the main loom of tape. Let me know if this is the case.

I will check it out. The new amp didn't work. I will let you know if this works. Thanks.
