Default neutral safety switch

hey guys / gals
i gotta say i really love my car but i think it is going to make me start drinking again.
2001 Chevy Monte Carlo LS
3.4 L Engine
i was backing in my parking space at work and a co worker informed me that i had no back up lights. i replaced both bulbs and still dont work. i believe the reverse light switch is actually part of the neutral safety switch. however i can not locate where this switch is located..

and help locating this will be much appreciated and pictures would be just awesome

If your engine/trans is like a 3800/4t65e, then your NSS is underneath the brake master cylinder (look on top of the trans, close to the firewall, on the right hand side) You'll see a line going to it, that's the shift cable coming from inside the car.

The brake master cylinder might not apply to you, since you have a 6th gen.

Look at your exhaust crossover. Follow it to the EGR. Look to the right and back down on the tranny.
