Default Shifter - drive to neutral?

Does anyone know how to stop the shifter from going from Drive to Neutral which happens as you move up through the gears without using the shifter release button. I find this to be a problem under the stress of quickly shifting while running through the gears. Shifting up through the gears 1, 2, 3 and finally Drive more often than not I shift right through Drive and right into Neutral; it stops there because it can not go into Reverse. What I would like it to do is stop in Drive. Actually, what I would really like is to be forced to use the shifter release button with every gear change if at all possible guaranteeing positive shifts and no skipped gears. Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi `Sam,
Driv'in a Monte should be Stress-Free
Is this happening while racing, or just when U want to max it out ?
I searched 4 a shift kit, but could not find one.
Be Patience, we have several members that may be able to assist,
and advise `if there is a `Mod like you describe in your post.
Maybe a Medidation, or Yoga Class would relieve your stress ?
LOL
Does your `Monte have Mod's ?
I've found, when I've raced my `Monte's, I would just
leave it in drive, & let the trans do the shif'in
Check back later, 2 C what other members suggest.
Good Luck & Happy StressFree miles. 4-Sure

Oh, post some pic's of your `Monte, we really luv

I would love to post pix but I am a bit handicapped techologically speaking. Have a camera that came with the computer but have never used it. This drive to neutral problem is mostly when I am maxed out. The couple races I have had like you I have just left it in drive. Yes, I have a few modifications; it's an '07 SS with a 5.3 - a Flashpaq superchip, MSD coils and wires, K&N CAI, Jet MAF, Magnaflow exhaust, front and rear STB's, Aerocatch hood latches, Poly upper motor mount, rear seat gone and all re-carpeted, no spare or jack - cardboard lid replaced with exact replica made of 1/4" aluminum plate, billet mounted fire extinguisher. Most of all this will all be replaced in the next few months. All the parts are on order and the build will probably begin first of May and take several months. It will be a destroked LS7 (427 [4.125 x 4.00] to 402 [4.125 x 3.75]), turbo charged and a lot of other goodies (fuel, headers, cooling, brakes, etc., etc., etc..... Will retain the use of the FWD with a modified Dart block & World Products LSX heads with a highly modified tranny to take all the new torque that it will be exposed too. My new interior dash is ready and modified with 9 gauges - 5 in front of me and 4 where the center vents were. A shift light is mounted next to the cigar lighter slanted toward me. The turbo controls are set flush in the radio bezel just in front of the ignition key for that factory finish. All gauges will be fitted just above the instrumentation to appear OEM as best they can, there is a hidden kill switch. Passenger air bag has been legally disconnected and removed with a GM bypass switch used for handicapped passengers. Currently widening front wheels to accept P265/40 x 18's drag radials with 1" wheel adaptors (these do fit under wheel wells). I remember writing to someone else on this forum but do not remember who. At that time I pretty much mentioned everything I was doing but never got a response. The bill of materials for this build is 10 pages plus - it has been pretty exhausting all the preparation which I started last November - especially the custom made tranny parts. But I am driving it now and will be for a short period to come and having fun - this car will no longer be driven in bad weather or winter. It will be stored. Sorry to bore you with all the details but I am really excited about this build and can't wait until it is ready. Thanks for all your help.

I am sure when you have your performance transmission built
that they should be able to mod your linkage to block out neutral.

Please keep us updated on your progress.
I am sure our members will be very interesting in your
Hot Rod'in 07 Monte SS hitt'in the `Track.

I have requested this entire build to be photographed and put on a disc. The shop where this is being done just had an entry in Super Chevy with an '02 Monte SS and it came in first place for the build just last week but not the interior. I plan on having a respectable interior and not just a car that goes fast and not look nice. And thank you very much for the accolades.

Oh, by the way in regard to FWD's and extreme power. Intense races a FWD grand prix in the high 8's in the quarter mile. I have spoken to them and they get about 50 runs on a trans before it is taken out for rebuild. I won't be doing 8's in the quarter and I have several modifications I am doing that have gone even beyond Intenses so I should be able to get alot of use out of my trans without to much difficulty. Thank you
