Default Need opinion on code 1811.......tranny

I have a 2002 SS. If I drive it back and forth to work, just highway it shifts fine. If I drive longer around town and get the tranny hot, it starts to shift hard going into second gear. Well, I took it to a tranny guy, he pulled a code 1811. He said he could replace the second gear shift solenoid, but doesnt say that would fix it. $540. Or if that doesnt fix it, I will need to rebuild the tranny $1700-1900. What should I do. Take a chance or just save up for the rebuild. And help would be great on anyone who has fixed the code 1811, (long shifts). Thanks

Good read for the 4t65e transmission.

I had the same problem on my 2002 ss, had the pressure switch solenoid replaced, filter replaced and of course new fluid.....has worked fine since...the labor is the big cost since you have to drop the sub frame.....when it shifts hard , stop and shut it down for 5 minutes or so....it should reset and see if it shifts ok.........a bad solenoid will hold the highest shift pressure point until it resets

Yes when it starts to shift hard. Turning the key off will reset the tranny until it gets hot again. So just maybe a new solenoid might help. Thanks for the info.

Known problem in these cars. Put a pressure control solenoid in it, fill it with dexron IV and use a GM filter. Fixes the problem 99% of the time. Find a new mechanic. This is a problem in anything with a 4t60/65, a good mechanic would know this and try try to charge you $1600 for the wrong part. PCS is like $60 plus labor.

Thanks for the info. Thats what I'm going try to get done. Soon as the Tech gets back with me on the total price. Is there a way they can be sure they change the right soleniod? I believe theres more than one in the tranny.

p1811 is a code pertaining to the pressure control solenoid. If they change any other one, franky, they shouldn't be in the business.
