I recently changed tranny' in my my 05 monte. Upon completion and taking for test drive. I noticed a whining sound and the area was close to throttle body. I had to replace mass air flow sensor and a throttle body gasket. The sound reminds me of the old Ford power steering pumps. Any suggestions

 

I'd take it back to the transmission shop. The only pump on that side of the engine at all is the trans pump (which can whine), and thats not normal. Its a little more off to the drivers side than the TB, but not much - and certainly the acoustics from the trans case could be making it sound like its coming from below the TB.
