Need help deciding on brake rotors
#21
Great Weekend! The brakes install went off without a hitch and was easy as pie! I was blown away at just how easy it is to change the brakes, all it really takes is time, and even then it's a very little amount of time. Maybe 20-30 min per side for a first timer like myself, probably can cut that down to about 15-20 min per side after you do it a couple times.
First impressions of the brakemotive brakes? Well, they look nice, no issues there. The stopping power has increased noticeably but I haven't done any high speed, quick stops or anything like that just yet. I've only done my normal driving and kind of taking it as easy on the brakes as possible for a little bit. I did the recommended bed-in procedure, it's nice having to press the pedal in very little to get it to slow down/stop. Pedal feel is firm and secure feeling, no issues there. The only issue, if it's even one, is that it sounds as if the brake pad(s) is/are rubbing slightly on the rotor when i'm not even pressing on the brake pedal. It's a very slight sound, my girlfriend hasn't noticed at all, and I have to really pay attention to hear it myself but it's there. I don't know if that's normal, if it will go away after getting a couple hundred miles on them or what. But it's not like they are putting pressure on the rotors cause when i'm at a dead stop and let go of the brake pedal the car will start rolling like normal.
The only other thing I don't like is a cosmetic thing....the rears were machined perfectly, the pad contact area on the rotor is perfectly sized so you can see how the pad is wearing away all of the machining marks on the rotor's pad contact area. The fronts though were machined so that there is still about a 1/4" gap between the end of the area where the pad contacts the rotor and the "hat" area of the rotor. The "hat" areas surface is kinda sunk in or lower than the pad contact area and I painted the hat area black so there is a noticeable contrast between the black there and the shiny/smooth area that the pads are making/going to make on the pad contact area....you can still see the 1/4" gap of the original machining marks which is dull in comparison to the painted hats and pad contact area.
But other than that, no complaints. I drove down to my father in laws down in Gilroy, CA. to get the work done so obviously drove back home (about 112mi) and the brakes felt very good. Still getting used to the emergency brake feel though, before I had to jam that thing to the ground to get it to hold any, now I barely have to go halfway! My caliper paint should be here Wednesday so Saturday I'll be out taking the brakes apart so I can paint the calipers and caliper brackets. My decals should hopefully be here by then too, they shipped out 9.26.10 and are coming from Canada so hopefully they'll be here. I can't wait! Then it's time to start saving up for my rims baby!!

looks good just glad that you are happy with them as well of the time you spent on doing them. at least you saved alot of money if you tool it to a shop to do it they probably would have charged a arm and a leg when they seen the new rotors. most shops will turn people away if they have after market products that are proven to help. i am just glad you are happy

they look very nice man, glad you're happy with the set-up and very happy that you won't be paying to get brakes done at a shop anymore. I need to be able to do things like this also... your wheels look like they are in pretty good shape also, looks great.... thanks for the follow-up posts
